I enjoyed reading the three essays titled "This I Believe". I agreed with Michael Oatman(writer of the second essay) when he said that education can transform someone's whole life. I also agree with his points he made about how education is something we explore on our own not following others.I believe even if one has a rough life in the beginning they can change that with exploring education. Expanding on that, education opens our minds up to so many opportunities whether that be a new career or a new insight about something. Education is also one will experience by themselves. Everyone wants something different in life so you can not really follow in one's footsteps. Joseph Laycock wrote about his experience training for kickboxing and how he can relate that to teaching in a high school classroom. This article was saying that one can do many things with the knowledge and education they learn. You might think you would not be able to use skills learned in kick boxing in teaching but Joseph proves otherwise. An example he uses is how he learns that laziness can not occur in either boxing nor teaching. "Students need a teacher that is willing to fight" was a quote I liked because it proves one can not become lazy when their students need them just like in kickboxing. The the last essay the author talks about her nona and how she started out with a rough life and turned it around and now works with numbers everyday. I believe the most important thing to take out of this essay is that patience and endurance is most important to have when achieving your goals. Her nona could of never have gotten to where she is today if she did not have patience and endurance. Believing in oneself is very important if you want to move forward in life. If you do not believe in yourself, how do you expect anyone else to?
